The Haven

The Haven offers practical and emotional support to women and children who have been subjected to domestic abuse and homelessness. Domestic abuse affects 1 in 4 women in the UK at some point in their lifetime. It is a phenomenon that is embedded throughout society with victims coming from a variety of backgrounds.

The Haven have 6 refuges across the city that offer emergency accommodation to 63 women and 100 children at any one time. Often refuge is the last port of call for women and children who have nowhere else to turn, and many arrive with little but the clothes on their backs. Unfortunately the need for the service always surpasses their capacity.
The Haven runs vital, additional services alongside refuges to help women and children not only escape their abuser, but to regain the skills and confidence to live independently, and without abuse, for good.

These services include a financial inclusion project, supporting victims of financial abuse, a dedicated children’s and young people’s service, criminal justice support, a 24 hour helpline and a large community and resettlement team that works with women to move beyond domestic abuse to a life of independence.

The Haven is the only local organisation whose support is focused on women and children affected by domestic abuse and so offer a vital support system for women and children in need.
